Portlantis – A High-End Port Experience on the Maasvlakte
A sustainable experience in the heart of the Port of Rotterdam. In the heart of Europe’s largest port lies Portlantis: a sustainable visitor center where industry, nature, technology, and the energy transition come together. As the technical partner for this large-scale project, Ata Tech delivered a complete solution for all audiovisual and lighting systems.
Portlantis is more than just an exhibition space. It’s a permanent, interactive experience that immerses visitors in the story of one of the world’s greatest ports. For the Port of Rotterdam, it also serves as a professional meeting place for international partners.
Ata Tech was responsible for the full engineering, delivery, installation, and programming of all AV and lighting systems in the building. In collaboration with main contractor Bruns, design studio Kossmanndejong, and a team of creative partners, we created a technical platform that brings the story to life. Technology that inspires!
Audiovisual
• Over 100 IP/Dante speakers across multiple floors create a dynamic soundscape.
• From ambient port sounds to personal stories of port workers.
• Unity games and interactive projections bring content to life.
Interaction & Experience
• Touchscreens, motion sensors, AR and VR, all integrated into one unified AV system.
• 64 iPad Pros with AR experiences about the port’s future.
• 30 VR headsets offer immersive 360° experiences.
Lighting & Show Control
• From functional to scenographic lighting, fully DMX-controlled across 52 sACN universes & Casambi, enabling flexible setups for various scenarios.
• Central show control system based on Pharos and BrightSign.
Multifunctional Group Space
• Intuitive AV setup for educational programs and business events – easy to operate without technical knowledge.
A project of this scale demands technical precision, flexibility, and close collaboration. With dozens of media parties, diverse content types, and complex systems per zone, the challenge was to create a seamless and intuitive visitor experience. Thanks to our experience with museum-based immersive projects and a hands-on approach on site, we delivered within a tight schedule.
